Project Description

Phillip Street, Parramatta

GMU was invited by Parramatta Council as one of three participants in the architectural competition for 66–68 Phillip Street, Parramatta. GMU’s concept for the site was developed from an in-depth consideration of the role of Parramatta, its history and development as well as Council’s vision for the centre and riverfront. The design responds to the unique constraints and characteristics of the immediate context and considers the desired future character that will gradually change the existing form and ambiance of Phillip Street and Parramatta River.

The design of the new building is bold in its relationship to the heritage cottages seeking to form a backdrop that is responsive while acknowledging the need to revitalise the riverfront with significant built form.
